Despite San Francisco’s high Covid-19 vaccination rate, only 20 percent of employees have returned to the office, SFGate reported.
As of late July, 75 percent of people in San Francisco were vaccinated, while the city’s office turnout (20.8 percent) remains below the national average of 33 percent, the news publication wrote. The city of Austin, Texas, has the highest rate of in-person work at 52.7 percent, it added.
The report attributed Texas’s high rate of in-person work to the ending of a mask mandate and capacity restrictions.
The reason for low office turnout in San Francisco may be linked to the fact that Bay Area tech companies such as Salesforce and Facebook are promoting remote-work arrangements for post-pandemic life, SFGate said.
