Three-quarters of California’s state employees have been told to continue working from home even as the state reopens after its yearlong Covid-19-related restrictions, the Sacramento Bee reported.
Eraina Ortega, the director of the state’s human resources department, sent an email April 6 telling workers who can telecommute to continue doing so, the newspaper said.
“The administration’s direction continues to be that we aim to keep employees eligible for telework on a telework schedule,” Ortega was cited as saying in the email.
Department directors also should begin considering setting up hybrid offices or so-called hoteling, in which workers can schedule desk time, the email added.
The administration of Gov. Gavin Newsom plans to implement a permanent remote-work option for state employees in the future, the paper said.
