Michigan will lift its rule that requires employers to mandate remote work if a job can be performed off premises as Covid-19 vaccination rates in the state rise above 55 percent, the Associated Press reported.

The state will remove the rule on May 24, AP said.

Democratic Gov. Gretchen Whitmer announced the 55 percent marker in a video message.

“If you’ve gotten your safe, effective vaccine, thank you,” she was cited as saying in by AP. “Every day we get closer to putting this pandemic behind us and getting back to normal.”

More than 4.4 million Michigan residents have received at least one vaccine dose, the report said.
