Google said it plans to invest more than $7 billion in offices and data centers in the U.S. even as some organizations cut back on office space on expectations that pandemic-induced remote work will continue.
“Coming together in person to collaborate and build community is core to Google’s culture, and it will be an important part of our future. So we continue to make significant investments in our offices around the country,” Google Chief Executive Officer Sundar Pichai said in a statement on the search-engine company’s website on March 18.
On the same day, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio announced that Google would invest $250 in New York this year and increase city jobs by 3,000, to 14,000.
In addition, Google will add thousands of posts in Atlanta, Washington, D.C., and Chicago. Data center expansions are planned for Nebraska, South Carolina, Virginia, Nevada and Texas, Pichai added.
