While technology companies were among the first adopters of remote work during the pandemic and some have announced that employees can work from home indefinitely, Apple Chief Executive Officer Tim Cook is looking for more face time — as opposed to more FaceTime.
“My gut says that, for us, it’s still very important to physically be in touch with one another because collaboration isn’t always a planned activity,” he told People magazine. He added that for innovation to take place, “it’s bumping into each other over the course of the day” that could advance an idea.
He said in the March 18, 2021, article that the company is still unsure of how office space might be reconfigured for the Covid era. In earlier statements, Cook had said that most Apple workers wouldn’t be back in the office before June 2021.
“I can’t wait until that happens,” he told People.
